The new Objet d’ Art Moonphase adds a brilliant flash of steel to the ever-growing, increasingly popular Objet d’ Art family. With its solid stainless steel case and band, Swiss ebauche automatic movement, smartly crafted dial, day, date and moonphase indications, and mineral crystals on front and back, the Moonphase is an object more than worthy of its name. It’s water resistant to 50 meters.

Exactly what does ebauche mean? This was a question someone recently asked us at an industry show in New York. An ebauche, (sometimes spelled ébauche) is a movement minus the balance, escapement, mainspring, dial or hands. In essence, it’s a building block or a “blank.” Fine watchmakers procure their ebauches from countries like Switzerland and France (hence, Swiss Ebauche Movement), and often source many of the other components from all over the world. The ebauches and components are then assembled, and often customized with particular combinations, at the watchmaker’s facilities. At Invicta, we’ve been able to revolutionize the industry by following this very practice, while still keeping our prices low. It’s how we’re turning the balance of power back to you.

Congratulations to AJ, from Okeechobee, FL for his winning entry in our Win Invicta Gear contest. Here’s an excerpt of AJ’s entry. You can view the full text in the archive of past issues.

“As the day was coming to a close his gun jammed, and I told him to wait, I’d show him how to clear the jam, but as I approached him, he apparently cleared the jam and the gun fired as I was leaning into his sight table. The weight of the watch in my vest pocket was enough that when the gun fired it hit the watch and ricocheted off the watch and cleared my body.

It is my opinion that the angle of the gun, with the position of the watch in my vest pocket, allowed the watch to deflect the 9mm bullet, and save two lives that day...”

Lupah Daddy: Check out this clip of P. Diddy sporting his Pavé Lupah on an episode of Making the Band.

You’re Invited: to watch Lupah fan Jackie Guerra as she hosts You’re Invited on the Style Network, Tuesdays at 9:30.

Not at all Shocking: We caught NY Giants TE Jeremy Shockey wearing his Lupah in the pages of the August 18 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

Tune in to MTV or E!, or just flip through the pages of any fashion magazine and it’s hard not to notice that leather straps are in. And in a big way. Today’s fashionistas like their straps is three sizes: wide, wider, and isn’t that a wristband? The big bands made popular by rock stars offer a fitting companion to a T-shirt and jeans. As does the new Angel Split Strap. With its solid stainless steel rectangular case with screw-down back, textured enamel dial, Tritnite® luminous hands and split genuine leather strap with contrast hand stitching, this new Angel is devilishly casual.

It was recently brought to our attention that a photo exists of NASA astronaut Michael P. Anderson, the payload commander of the Space Shuttle Columbia, wearing an Invicta 8926 during that last fateful mission. Over the years, we have received countless compliments and testimonials as to the quality of our timepieces, but we can think of no greater honor than that of the confidence of a NASA astronaut.

Our hearts go out to the Anderson family, and to all of the families of the Columbia crew, just as they did February 1, 2003.
